This class will provide hands-on training, as well as courses on the cultural considerations when crafting an authentic Lomi Lomi massage, which translates into “rub rub” massage in Hawaiian.

It’s also called the ‘loving hands’ massage, a name that encapsulates its essence. The approach of this massage is to delicately yet profoundly engage the muscles through uninterrupted, flowing strokes, enabling the individual to surrender to the comforting and caring touch.

Christine Mooney, the leading practitioner of the Lomi Lomi classes at the NEPA School of Massage and founder of Massage Now, was personally educated by Aunty Marguerite Sarah Pennington, who learned directly from Margaret Machado in Hawaii.

Machado is considered the “elder,” or founder, of the Lomi Lomi massage, so receiving second-hand training from one of Machado’s students on Kauai has enabled Christine to acquire a firm grasp on all the techniques and cultural conditions of the Lomi practice.

Our curriculum provides a well-rounded background on Lomi Lomi that includes:

  • Hawaiian History
  • Lomi Lomi Techniques and Routine
  • Hawaiian Lomi Lomi Elders
  • Mana: Your Personal Power
  • Traditional Hawaiian Lifestyle
  • The elements of Lomi Lomi
  • Lomi Lomi Effects and Contraindications

The NEPA School of Massage’s Lomi Lomi classes provide the most direct training that any student can acquire without going to train directly in Hawaii.

Christine’s Lomi Lomi training will prepare students for an excellent career in Lomi Lomi. The lessons will also benefit any student looking to become an aspiring massage therapist.
