Every decision a massage therapist makes has its ethical implications. This course begins the study of ethics, its terminologies, standards, and codes. The focus of this introductory class will be to begin the understanding of how ethics weaves its way into the massage profession, from the obvious to the subtle. As new students, awareness will be brought to bear in terms of citizenship, class interaction, relations with instructors, staff, and management, all leading to an increased awareness of ethical dealings with the massage community and clients.

This course will cover professional ethics in the massage and bodywork industry. This class aims to understand the implications and intentions of massage as we examine roles and boundaries, professionalism, client confidentiality, and prevention of sexual misconduct. Also discussed will be the current trends and changes within the profession, along with information on the different levels of professional credentials, licensing, and certification registration.

This course will examine and discuss the various and diverse ways of approaching health and hygiene in a multicultural world. It will also cover the precautions and protocols that must be followed to maintain professional safety standards. By the end of the course, each student will have discovered what health ideas and modalities work best for them to mindfully provide for the overall wellbeing of their client.

This class will be a hands-on experience for what you will need to know mentally and physically to maintain longevity throughout your massage therapy career. Focus will be on giving back your own well-being throughout your day and throughout your career.

This course will expose the student to the components required to structure their massage therapy practice according to good business procedures. Entrepreneurship will be a focus in this course. Students will investigate, explore and discuss the qualities, behaviors and variables that contribute to successful massage practices. The course will also include promotion, practice building, rudimentary legal aspects, and ethical business considerations.

This course grounds the students firmly in the history, philosophy and theory of massage and touch therapy. Students will come to understand and appreciate the benefits and effects of massage, as well as the basic guidelines of the indications and contraindications of therapeutic massage. It is a comprehensive view of the principles and fundamentals of touch and massage today. This course also provides basic coaching, communication, and guidance in working with the general public as potential clients. Designed to be interactive, informative, and fun, we explore the various interesting and sometimes unpredictable situations that may arise in the everyday experience of a massage therapist’s career.

In this course, students will learn and discuss about each system of the body using medical terminology. Systems included in this course are: Integumentary, Nervous, Endocrine, Reproductive, Cardiovascular, Lymphatic, Respiratory, Digestive, and Urinary systems.

This course will be divided into 2 sections:

1. Overview of the skeletal and muscular system and their pathologies
2. The hands-on portion of this class will consist of palpation of muscles, bones, and bony landmarks

This course introduces the study of Kinesiology: the study of human body movement as it pertains to massage therapy. This course will take a both lecture base and hands-on approach to learn how the body moves to better comprehend how massage therapy impacts a person’s general health and overall wellbeing.

Swedish massage is one of the most popular types of massage practiced in the United States. It’s versatile and can be practiced both therapeutically and for minimizing stress. Students will learn through demonstration, various hands-on practical application sessions, and presentation of theory.

Students will take a closer look into advanced massage therapy modalities such as deep tissue, hot stone, prenatal, chair massage, Lomi Lomi, reflexology, and more. Topics of history, demonstration and application of each modality will be the focus of this course.

This hands-on and lecture based introductory course will discuss massage in a clinical setting. Students will learn about different types of massage and massage contraindications for the special population. Topics include: Oncology massage, aging and geriatric massage, and hospital based massage therapy.

This course will examine the basics of pathology, the study of disease as it relates to massage therapy. Discussions will include basic terminology, definitions, signs, symptoms, treatments, outcomes, effects, contraindications, and precautions for massage.

In this course, students will discuss how certain medications affect the body in relation to massage therapy. Students will learn the precautions and contraindications massage therapists should take when starting treatment with medications.

Aromatherapy incorporates the use of essential oils into the art of massage therapy. Students will understand the years of science and application that go into aromatherapy dating back to ancient Egypt, becoming competent in using different essential oils to improve and elevate a massage session.

This course will focus on marketing for the massage therapist. Topics of strategies, mission statements, business cards, professional profiles, websites, blogs, social media, gift cards, value added services and retail products.

In this course students will complete 30 hours of 1-hour full body Swedish student massage therapy. Students are required to complete an evaluation form for each student massage session. Student massages will begin upon passing of the 110 Swedish Massage course final exam. Students will perform on site Student Swedish massage for $35 to the public. Student massages can be scheduled by School staff or by students through school staff.

In this course students will be prepped to pass their MBLEx exam with practice exams and learn test taking skills.
